Peer education programs

Strengthen ARV adherence to PLHIV enrolled at care and treatment Centers (CTCs) and improve HIV prevention through index testing.

This program has been implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of health Zanzibar under ZIHHTLP unit who is the lead of CTCs in Zanzibar. It is peer education program that has been implemented in 12(4Pemba, 8Unguja) CTCs in Unguja and Pemba.

30 peer educators were trained and distributed to CTCs to perform a number of roles including; provision of peer education sessions at CTC and at the community on HIV prevention, stigma reduction, human rights, GBV etc, conducting one on one counselling sessions, provision of testimony to new enrolled clients, support clients for index testing, trace miss appointment and lost to follow, sensitize clients for VL testing and suppression, escort internal referrals and link the clients to psychosocial groups for further HIV prevention education and support.

This is five years program started in 2019; contribute to ART retention and achieving the global target of 95, 95, 95. The program supported by AMFREF Tanzania
