Zanzibar Association of People Living with HIV and AIDS (ZAPHA+) was established in Zanzibar as a national network for, by and with People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in Zanzibar in the year 1994 and registered in 1996.
Objectives
The main objective of ZAPHA+ is working toward improving quality of life of PLHIV and their families physically, psychological, and socially. Ensuring PLHIV and their surrounding communities are empowered to contribute toward HIV prevention and care by using national guidelines.
The specific objectives of the ZAPHA+ are,
- Advocate to all PLHIV in Zanzibar to join ZAPHA+
- Advocate to access quality HIV prevention and care services
- Ensure PLHIV and their families are not stigmatized and discriminated at all settings, public transport, social services or workplaces
- Advise on positive living to all PLHIV
- Advocate for all forms of human rights including the rights of the PLHIV, child rights and participation.
- Assist PLHIV to maintain their health and well being
- Mobilize resources for ZAPHA+
- Ensure meaningful involvement of PLHIV in all ZAPHA+ activities
- Develop and implement IGA for ZAPHA+ members
- Provide Home Based Care to eligible PLHIV including advise on nutrition
- Advocate for the access to medical emergency services and food relief to the eligible PLHIV
- Advocate on positive living to PLHIV using different media
- Advocate to the public on HIV prevention and care
- Ensure Zanzibar is free of HIV stigma and discrimination
- Establish strong collaboration with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, RGoZ and developing partners
